In Part 1 of this series on how to plumb a jetted bathtub, you learned how to install the P-trap assembly, install the water supply riser lines and connect the show all files to the water supply pipes in your home. In this second installment, you'll learn how to connect the train of your Jacuzzi to the overflow pipe assembly, measure and cut the drowning tailpiece and connect the drain flange and overflow cover plate. Follow the simple steps below.

Step 1 - Position the Overflow Pipe Assembly

Slip the rubber gasket onto the top part of the overflow pipe. Then, insert the upper portion of the overflow pipe assembly into the upper hole in your jetted tub. This will be where water goes when the water level in your Jacuzzi gets too high.

Step 2 - Install the Overflow Pipe Assembly

Next, apply a small amount of plumber's putty to the inside threads of the connection fitting for the overflow pipe assembly. Then, use some Teflon tape to wrap the threaded end of the outflow pipe. Fit the lower part of the overflow pipe assembly onto the threaded pipe and tighten it with a pair of channel locks or a crescent wrench. Be careful not to tighten it too much.

Step 3 - Measure and Cut the Drain Tailpiece

Measure the distance from the bottom of the overflow pipe assembly connection fitting that is attached to the threaded outlet pipe to the inside of the section of the assembly that is inserted into the back of your jetted tub. Then, take a pencil and transfer the measurement to the tailpiece pipe included with the overflow pipe kit. Use the hacksaw to cut the tailpiece pipe to the correct length.

Step 4 - Install the Drain Tailpiece

Insert the tailpiece pipe into the lower and upper parts of the overflow pipe assembly. Use the compression nut fittings on the overflow pipe assembly to secure the tailpiece pipe.

Step 5 - Install the Drain Flange

Create a thick bead of plumbers putty behind the face of the drain flange. Then, insert the flange into the overflow drain hole of your jet tub and use the included screws and a screwdriver to secure it to the drain opening. Use a towel to wipe away any excess putty that may squeeze out the sides of the drain flange when you install it into the overflow drain hole of the jet tub.

Step 6 - Install the Drain Cover Plate

Place the drain cover plate over the drain flange. Align the drain cover plate so that it lines up with the holes for the screws in the drain flange and overflow opening. Then, use your screwdriver to tighten the included screws to secure the drain cover plate to the top of the drain flange.
