How to Polish Wooden Decorative Corbels

If you have decorative corbels made of wood in your home, you will want to keep them polished to show off their beauty. Taking care of this type of wood is the same as caring for any good wood. You may already have all the materials you need around your home.

You Will Need

  • Good Wood Polish
  • Soft Cloths
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Wood Cleaner

Step 1: Clean the Wood

Very often decorative wooden corbels have a lot of detailed carving or designs on them. This can make the job difficult when it is time to clean and polish them, so you may put it off. Doing this may cause a build up of dust and dirt. Your first step before you polish the wooden corbels is to clean them. Dust with a soft cloth. If there is a lot of dust in the carvings or design, you may need to use a cotton swab to get into the area.

Step 2: Polish the Wood

Pour a bit of furniture polish onto the wood, or if you are using a spray variety, spray on a bit. Use a soft clean cloth to buff it to a natural looking shine. Be careful of any carving or crevices and don't let the polish build up or puddle in them, as over time, this will cause darkening of the carved areas and may make them less visually appealing.
