How to Prevent Toilet Bowl Stains How to Prevent Toilet Bowl Stains
Toilet bowl stains are the worst! They make your whole bathroom like dirty. Once you have removed them, which is not always easy, you will want to do a little maintenance to keep them at bay. You will need to keep a few supplies on hand for prevention.
Step 1 - Baking Soda
At the end of the day when you are sure no one will be using the toilet for the rest of the night sprinkle baking soda and swish it around with your toilet brush to get it above the water line too. Close the lid and leave it over night.
Step 2 - Check for Progress
When you get up in the morning, just flush. The baking soda will have neutralized the stains and odors. If you find that you still have some signs of stains forming, you will need to add another step to your nightly routine.
Step 3 - Add Vinegar
If you have hard water, you may be fighting mineral deposits as well which look like stains. If you see that the baking soda alone is not stopping the formation of toilet stains you will add vinegar to your nightly toilet treatment. Apply the baking soda as explained above and swish it around with the toilet brush. Then add 1/4 cup of vinegar and swish it around again. Close the toilet and let it sit overnight. The next morning the stains that were forming will have bubbled away.
