Programming a multicode garage door opener is a very simple task. Besides your hands, no tools are involved and it only takes a matter of minutes to complete. Multicode garage door openers have gained popularity due to the convenience of being able to open two or more garage doors, without having to buy a separate opener for each one. Follow these instructions to get your opener running correctly.

Step 1 - Familiarize Yourself with Parts

Take out your opener from it's package, and study it. You will want to locate the buttons you push to program, as well as the indicator light.

The indicator light is what you will be looking for when its ready to be programmed.

Step 2 - Look Over Motor Unit

You will also want to take just a few seconds to locate the motor unit in the garage. Locate the antenna wire that runs in the back of it. By this wire, you will spot the button you will use in the last step.

Step 3 - Press and Hold

Take the opener, and using both buttons at the same time, press and hold for programming. The red light indicator should come on to let you know that it is ready for your code. Then use the number pad to enter a number sequence that will be easy for you to remember. You will also want to make sure the code isn't so simple or obvious that others may guess it.

Step 4 - Smart Button

Use a ladder to access the unit in the garage, and again locate the button by the antenna wire. This is called a smart button, and you activate this by pressing it just once, and releasing it immediately.

Step 5 - Repeat

You will want to repeat the above steps for each different code you wish to program. The number of garage doors you are able to program depends on what garage door opener model you purchased. Different models can control from two to as many as five different doors.

The steps above provided you with the ability to use all the options provided by your new opener. Now, all you need to do is enjoy the added convenience.
