How to Reduce Noise in a Cold Mist Humidifier How to Reduce Noise in a Cold Mist Humidifier

What You'll Need
Cool mist humidifier
Filter
Screwdriver

If you have a cool mist humidifier, you may find that they produce a low level of noise. While this is considerably less than the amount produced by other electrical products, you may still find it difficult to sleep. If you are using it in a child's room, then the noise may disturb the child. Reducing the noise level is simple.

Step 1 - Move the Fan

The amount of noise produced by the fan can be affected by where it is placed on the room. Ensure the area where it is used is completely flat, and the cool mist humidifier itself is away from walls or other objects which could inhibit the proper flow of air through the system. It is also a good idea to place the humidifier on a soft object, such as a folded towel or napkin, as this will stop the stand from vibrating against a hard object.

Step 2 - Adjust the Fan and Impeller

Take the motor out of the water, and take off the top of the impeller tip. This will increase the flow of air through the system, and will help to reduce the noise. You can also remove the fan, and replace the filter, as this can sometimes help to reduce noise.
