Removing a garden tub requires some measure of minor renovation work, such as chipping away the old tile to free up the tub. It requires you to work with a chisel and hammer, as well as a pry bar to free the tub from the wall and remove it to make way for the installation of a new garden tub.

Step 1 - Remove Lower Tiles

To begin the removal of your old garden tub, remove the row of tiles which rest up against the tub. These tiles will most likely present a problem for you later on when you pry the tub loose from the wall with the pry bar. The tiles can be chipped away with a hammer and chisel. If you work carefully enough, it may be possible to salvage the tiles and reuse them for the next tub.

Step 2 - Pry Garden Tub Away

After removing the first tile row away from the tub, score the grout using the blade of a utility knife. Carefully place the pry bar between the wall and the tub and pull it away from the wall. Once it has been freed, you can remove the tub completely from the bathroom.
