Removing a garden tub requires some minor renovation work, such as chipping away the old tile work to free the tub. It requires you to work with a chisel and hammer, as well as a pry bar to free the tub from the wall and remove it for the installation of a new bathtub.
Step 1 - Remove Lower Tiles
To begin the removal of your garden tub, remove the row of tiles which rest on the tub. These tiles will present a problem for you later on when you pry the tub loose from the wall. The tiles can be chipped away with a hammer and chisel. If you work carefully enough, it may be possible to salvage the tiles and reuse them with the next tub.
Step 2 - Pry Garden Tub Away
After removing the tile row from the bathtub, score the grout with a utility knife. Carefully place the pry bar between the wall and the tub and pull it away from wall. Once it has been freed, remove the tub completely from the bathroom.
