Removing a pop up tub drain is not a difficult task to accomplish. Below you will find 4 simple steps to follow to get the job done right.
Step 1 - Clean the Tub
Take a little tub cleaner and wash out the tub so that you have a clean work surface to start with.
Step 2 - Remove the Cap
Using a twisting motion with your fingers, unscrew the cap.
Step 3 - Remove the Plug
Take out a screwdriver and remove the plug. There are usually 2 screws on the top of the plug. These 2 screws are responsible for holding the plug in place. Carefully unscrew them and try not to scratch any of the surrounding surfaces.
Step 4 - Remove the Drain
You can remove the drain in one of two ways. You can use a special tool that is made just for removing drains or you can make your own tool by using a pair of slip-joint pliers and a screwdriver. Take the pliers' handles and lower them into the basin of the drain past where you see the "X" shaped metal. Using the screwdriver, push it in between the handles. The screwdriver becomes your level. Turn the screwdriver to unscrew the drain.
