How to Remove a Sink From Bathroom Cabinets

When doing a bathroom remodel, it may be necessary to remove current sink from the bathroom cabinets. If that is the case, you do not have to hire a professional to get the job done. While you may need some help, this is a project that can be done yourself by following these step-by-step instructions.
Step 1 - Prepare
Before you begin, put on rubber gloves and turn-off the water. You can either shut-off the water to the sink, or you can turn it off to the entire house. Gain access under the sink by opening the cabinets and propping the doors.
Remove everything from the cabinets so that they do not become get in the way. You may need someone to hold a flashlight while you work. Line the bottom of the cabinet with towels so that you can protect it from water leaks. Put the bucket under the drain pipe to catch water when you remove the fixtures.
Step 2 - Remove the Fixtures
Remove any fixtures or knobs that are under the sink. To prevent damage to the fixtures, wrap an old rag around the wrench while you are loosening the fixtures. Unhook the plastic coupling from the end of the supply hose.
Disconnect the supply lines with a wrench. Loosen the collar at both ends. Also remove the P-trap by loosening the nuts with pliers.
Step 3 - Remove the Sink Clips
The clips are attached to the top of the cabinet by the basin of the sink. Use the wrench, again with a cloth, to loosen the clips. Then unhook the drainpipe and bottom of the sink. While the water is shut off, anything that has pooled inside of the pipes may be released.
Step 4 - Remove the Basin
Cut the seal of the sink. Use a utility knife and work around the outer edge of the basin. Cover a pry bar with a cloth and have 1 person prying out the sink while the other loosen it with their hand and holds it in place.
Once you have loosened the sink, push the basin up. Once it is out, carefully move it to a padded area and wrap it in towels. Doing so will protect it. Clean around the cabinet where you removed the basin.
