How to Remove Leaves that are Stuck in Swimming Pool Pumps
An important part of pool maintenance is making sure your swimming pool pumps are working properly. If your pool is surrounded by trees, make sure you know how to clear leaves that are stuck in the pump.
Step 1 - Turn Off Pump
Your first step must be to switch off the pump. Swimming pool pumps are powerful pieces of machinery, and reaching in while it's on could result in serious injury.
Step 2 - Remove the Lid
Many lids of swimming pool pumps twist off, and if you closed the lid tightly last time, you may need to use a hammer to help you remove it. Make sure that you do not use too much force, or you may damage the lid.
Step 3 - Remove the Pump Basket
Take out the pump basket, and there you will see the leaves that have collected in the pump. Be sure to check both sides of the basket, and remove all debris.
Step 4 - Replace the Basket and Lid
Replace the basket properly, and close the lid tightly to prevent leaks.
Step 5 - Prevention
To avoid having to open your pump in the future, regularly use your pool skimmer to clear leaves out of your pool, before they reach the pump and filtration system.
