Shower caulk is essential to keeping water from getting behind fixtures and tub and shower enclosures. After some time, it will begin to mold and can start disintegratin,g which will not work at protecting it from water damage. It is easy to move with the proper steps.
Step 1 - Removing the Caulk
First, take a razor blade and very carefully remove the old caulk and throw the old caulk in a trash bag. After the large pieces are removed, gently scrape away any of the small bits left behind. You will then want to be sure that you have removed any mold or mildew.
Step 2 - Clean Away Debris
Mix 3 parts hot water to 1 part bleach in a spray bottle. Thoroughly pray all of the areas where the caulk was removed. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water to remove the bleach as well as the debris it loosened. Wipe all of the areas well to get it as dry as you can. Allow it to sit for at least an hour before re-caulking to be sure all of the moisture has dissipated.
