A butterfly leaf table is basically a lighter and smaller version of a table leaf. This type of table can fold itself away whenever it is not in use. A traditional table leaf is heavy and hard to use as well as store. A butterfly leaf table will allow you to have the ability to use it and then store it whenever you do not need it very easily. You will find that a few different things may over time need to be repaired with your butterfly leaf table. It is important that you understand how to fix them so that it can last you for as long as possible.

Step 1 – Determine the Problem
The first thing that you are going to have to do is of course figure out what the problem is. You will need to look at the finish and see what type of shape it is in. The top of the table may over time get scratches, holes and dents in it that you are going to have to fix. This is something that can easily be done with a little bit of elbow grease. Whenever you are folding up the table take note of how the hinges work. If they seem to stick or squeak, then there are a few things that you can do to make this less of a problem. Once you know what the problem is, then you will know how to fix it.
Step 2 – Sand
If there are issues with the top of the table, then it is a good idea for you to go ahead and get this fixed. You will find that the best way for you to do this is to first sand the top. Make sure that you pick sandpaper that not going to harm the table. You will not need a very high grade sandpaper as it will only do damage to the table. Sand it lightly and add some pressure after you have seen how the table reacts to the sanding.
Step 3 – Wood Filler
You may need to apply wood filler if you have any dents or holes in the table. This is something that can be easily done. Make sure that the wood filler that you use matches the color of your table top. You will then sand it down until it is all level.
Step 4 – Hinges
If the hinges are giving you issues, then there are a few things that you can do to fix this problem. If they are squeaky, simply apply WD40 to them. However, if it is more than squeaking, then you will need to loosen up the mounting screws on the hinges. Do not remove them, just get them loose. Hold a level against the folding part of the table to make sure it stays straight. Tighten up the screws while holding the table. Retighten them until you feel that they are completely secure. You may need a helper for this task.
