How to Repair a Cracked Aluminum Threshold

You might encounter instances where your aluminium threshold has developed cracks. These can easily be repaired without having to hire a professional or consider replacement. This is how to best go about it:

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Degreaser
  • Spray Bottle
  • Water
  • Ammonia
  • Aluminium Repair Epoxy
  • Sandpaper
  • Rags

Step 1: Prepare the Area

First of all it is crucial to prepare the cracked area properly for best results. Apply some degreaser to that area. Allow it to work for a few minutes, and then wipe it away.

Step 2: Remove Residue

Then, mix some ammonia with water in a spray bottle, and spray some of it onto the cracked area. This will help to remove any residue left by the degreaser in that area. After a few minutes, wipe the area dry with a rag.

Step 3: Apply Aluminium Repair Epoxy

Once the area has been prepared and cleaned, apply some aluminium repair epoxy to the crack. Cover the area well, and smoothen it as much as you can. Allow it to work according to the instructions of the particular brand you used.

Step 4: Smooth It

Afterwards, use a sandpaper to rub the area carefully. Make sure not to scratch or rub too hard. You just have to make the patched part look and feel smoother, so as to be less noticeable.
