How to Repair a Torn Car Seat Canopy

What You'll Need
Steam iron
Ironing board
Sharp scissors
Tailors' chalk or a pencil
Iron-on mending tape
A separate piece of fabric
Safety pins

If your car seat canopy gets torn, you could always just throw it away. But it might be inexpensive and easy to simply repair it.  The following will show you how.

Step 1 - Bring the Sides Together

Remove the canopy fabric from the car seat. Arrange the canopy's fabric so that the tear's sides are back together neatly, with the commonly seen side up.

Step 2 - Attach the Temporary Backing

Attach a separate piece of fabric to the area over the tear with safety pins, so as to keep it together.

Step 3 - Prepare the Area

Turn over the fabric, and pre-warm it by ironing over the area until it is warm. Place the mending tape over the tear.

Step 4 - Iron it on

Iron the mending tape until it has attached to the canopy fabric around the tear completely. Allow the canopy fabric to cool completely.

Step 5 - Remove the Temporary Backing

Remove the separate piece of fabric once the canopy is completely cooled.

Step 6 - Reinstall

Replace the canopy fabric to the car seat.
