How to Repair an Aluminum Fence
If you need to repair an aluminum fence, the task may seem daunting, but it can be done with ease. Here are a few steps that can help you through the process smoothly.
Step 1 - Repair a Rail
You will first want to decide if the rail has to be replaced completely or if you think you can fix it. If fixing it seems like a solution, then you can leave it on and not have to take the fence section apart. You can screw in multiple T-braces to help keep the section that is damaged up and supported. Use a few more screws to help secure it if necessary. It is sometimes better to just take off the entire section and replace the part that needs to be repaired. In order to do this you will need to use the drill to remove each of the screws holding the section together. You will need to either take the aluminum that was used for the fence to a hardware store to get the same kind or you can reorder it from the original place. Either way, you need to find the same material so that it matches in color and size. Once you have the same aluminum, you can use a saw to cut out a section that fits tightly against the fence posts and is the right length compared to the others around it. You will need to judge this accordingly depending on the style of your fence as many fences are all one length. However, some of them change gradually as part of the design. Then use the drill to screw the rail into place.
Step 2 - Repair the Post
If the post is a problem, it is a little bit easier to fix then a rail is. First you want to make sure that the post needs to be repaired and if so what the problem is exactly. If it is wobbling then you can just use a splint or support to keep it in place. Then you will want to add something around the bottom to make sure that it is staying put from then on. You can mix cement in a bucket according to the directions on it and then pour into and around the hole where the fence post is to secure it.
Step 3 - Paint
Now that you have either repaired or replaced the rail and or post you can paint what you have done. You will want to do this unless you have replaced with exactly the same material and color. Even if this is the case though, much of the rest of the fence has probably worn so depending on how long you have had it you may want to treat or paint the entire fence so that the color or shade is even.
Once you are finished you may want to check on it after a few days to make sure that the job was done correctly.
