An office swivel chair not only helps you work more efficiently, but also provides you with the comfort you need to go about your work. A swivel chair offers flexible movement around your workspace, and it also enables you to adjust the height you want in order to sit comfortably at your desk. You may encounter some complications with the cylinder system it uses. Follow the simple steps below to locate the problem with your swivel desk chair and effectively repair it.
Step 1 - Level Chair and Remove Base
Level the office swivel chair on a flat surface and make sure it is in a horizontal position. Remove the fastening clips at the bottom of the seat, and then take off the base. If the base is secured by bolts or nuts, you can use the appropriate wrench to loosen and remove them.
Step 2 - Inspect the Interior of the Chair
Look inside the interior of the chair for parts that are damaged or broken and may need replacing. If there happens to be other broken parts other than the gas cylinder, make sure to replace it with the right replacement. Consult the manufacturer's manual for the appropriate replacement pieces.
Step 3 - Remove Existing Gas Cylinder
Place a pipe wrench onto the gas cylinder and turn it, loosening the cylinder until it easily comes off. Take care not to forcefully tug on it, as you may damage other parts of the chair.
Step 4 - Install New Gas Cylinder
You can purchase the new gas cylinder at any home improvement or hardware store. Ask a sales representative for help to be sure that you choose the right replacement piece. Once you have the new gas cylinder place the tapered end inside the chair column.
Step 5 - Re-Assemble the Chair
With the new gas cylinder in place, you can reattach the base of the chair. Use your wrench to tighten all bolts and nuts that you removed. When the entire chair is re-assembled, check if the gas cylinder is working properly by adjusting the height of the seat.
