Getting a crack in glass fireplace cover can be frustrating and unsightly. While fireplace covers made of glass are designed to withstand a great deal of damage, children, adults, and even pets can still cause accidents that will leave small cracks or chips on the glass. If you are looking to repair it, you will have to either call in a professional or try to do the job yourself. If you decide to give the latter a go, you need a glass sander, a screwdriver, and some patience.

Step 1 - Remove the Cover

The first thing that you need to do is to remove the fireplace cover. This can be done with an ordinary screwdriver. Take the cover down, and then remove the individual panel which contains the crack. Place this on a flat, hard surface.

Step 2 - Use Sander

Take your glass sander and apply it gently to the crack. Move the sander up and down the crack. This should smooth out the glass.

If you find that your glass is too badly damaged to respond to the sander, you will need to take out that piece of glass and replace it with another. Get a local glass maker to make you a piece of safety glass and install this in the place of your cracked glass.
