Some motorized vertical blinds problems can be repaired easily with simple solutions readily available for the do-it-yourselfer. However, some problems (like damage on the head rail) may need to be taken care of by a professional or the company service. Here are some ways to repair motorized vertical blinds.

Step 1 – Troubleshooting Common Problems

When the motorized vertical blinds stopped working, don’t remove the parts of the blinds just yet to begin repairing it. Do some quick troubleshooting procedures first to ensure that the real cause of the damage or malfunction is addressed properly. If pressing the controls on the device does not seem to do anything, check if the battery is still working. Replace the battery if this is the case.

If it is hard wired to the power source of the house, make sure that the circuit breaker is not turned off. When using a remote control to tilt the slats open or close, make sure that the batteries are still functioning. Replace the batteries if they are already dead.

Step 2 – Replacing Damaged Slats and Clips

The problem with plastic slats is they get damaged easily when too much pressure is applied to them. If the kids or any other factors damaged the plastic slats, simply remove the individual broken slat from its holding clip and buy a replacement. To install the new slat, press it firmly into the clip. If the clip is made of plastic, take extra caution not to damage it. If it gets damaged as well, replace it with a new clip. Simply unhook it from the head rail to remove it and simply snap the new one into place in the same manner as the other clips.

Step 3 – Replacing the Chain in the Head Rail

If the vertical slats do not tilt correctly or simply do not move because the chain has been damaged, replace the chain with a new one. Take note that repairing the head rail chain may get the warranty invalidated. However, if the warranty has lapsed already, replace the chain by removing all the individual vanes first. Remove the chain while taking note of how it was set on the head rail. Purchase a new chain and install it into the head rail. Attach the slats back on into the clips following the previous alignment.

Step 4 – Replacing a Broken Motor

If the motor has been broken, you may have it either repaired by a professional or replaced with a new one. Before deciding to replace the motor, make sure to do some comparison shopping first to determine the cost of the whole process. If a replacement is more cost efficient than buying a new motorized vertical blind, then go ahead and remove the motor from the whole set. To do this correctly, obtain a service manual from the manufacturer’s website. Purchase a new motor from the same company as well and install it as per manufacturer’s instructions. Have this done by a professional if it requires hardwiring it to the power supply.
