Spark plug wiring is important to keep the engine firing. Removal and replacement of the spark plugs can strip the spark plug wiring, also known as the threads. The article below will explain how to fix stripped spark plug wiring.

Step 1 – Sizing up the Spark Plug

Measure the spark plug across the center of the plug port. This will give you the diameter needed to select the proper insert and tap.

Step 2 – Tap Guide

Place the tap guide over the spark plug port, and center it. Its purpose is to keep the tap level.

Step 3 – Use the Tap

Screw the spark plug tap into the spark plug. When finished, remove the tap as well as the guide. This will clean the spark plug wiring in the port.

Step 4 – Threaded Insert

Put the insert over the end of the tap, and then screw it into the port hole. When it stops, pull it out. The insert will be left behind.

Step 5 – Finishing

At the bottom of the insert is a tab. Pinch it with the pliers and wiggle it up and down until it breaks off. Replace the spark plug.
