How to Replace a Faulty Bird Bath Pump
If your bird bath pump is not working properly, you may need to replace it. Luckily, replacing the bird bath pump is not a very difficult job. It is typically something that you will have to do with any bird bath that you may have. The pumps may over time become too worn out to continue or may break due to not being maintained properly. You may even find that you do not have to replace it, but may actually just need to clean it. This is something that can be done easily as well.
Step 1 – Remove Pump
There are a few different places that the pump may be. It is usually at the bottom of the solar panel if you have a solar bird bath, or it is on the actual bird bath. Once you have found it, you will need to take off the filter cap as well as the impeller. The impeller looks like a fan blade. You will be able to easily remove it once you have taken off the filter cap.
Step 2 – Manufacturer’s Instructions
It is also a good idea for you to look over the manufacturer’s instructions. If you are unable to find the pump or if you are having trouble removing it, then look at the instructions that came with your bird bath to see if it can tell you anything on how to properly remove the pump from the bird bath.
Step 3 – Clean
Before you replace the bird bath, you should first clean it. You will find that sometimes this is all that you will need to do. Because the motor of your bird bath runs at a very low pace, it is very easy for the impeller blade to become clogged. This is something that you should get into the practice of doing regularly to ensure that your pump lasts you for a long time.
Once you have removed the pump, you should blow into it. This will get rid of any debris or dust. Get your rag and clean the metal shaft of the pump. It is a good idea to look over the outlet as well as the inlet ports to make sure that they are not blocked and that there is nothing that is blocking the impeller of your pump. Once you have done this put the pump back in. If it does not work, then attempt to force water in through the pump the wrong way. This will get rid of a blockage that you may not have seen. If this still does not work, then you will need to replace it.
Step 4 – Install
In order to put in the new pump, you will put it into place, then put the impeller blade back in. Once you have both the pump and impeller blade in place you are ready to put the filter cap back in and turn the pump on.
