A swamp cooler pump is one of those parts you’re likely need to replace at some point. The cooler unit is a simple and cost-effective appliance that helps you cool your household air. Warm air from outside the appliance is drawn into the cooler and passed over wet pads that act as a wet filter for air.

This cools the air, which is then distributed into your living space through ductwork. A swamp cooler that works efficiently can make all the difference in comfort indoors during the hot season. Fortunately, it is not difficult to replace the pump should your cooler pump require replacement. Follow the simple steps below to get it fixed in minimal time.

Step 1 – Disconnect Power Supply

Turn off power to the cooler. This will prevent an accidental electrical shock.

Step 2 – Locate Water Pump and Remove

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws from the side panel. Lift out the panel and put aside. Remove the water pads and unplug the hose that is attached to the pump. Use a pair of pliers to disconnect the pump from the brackets that secure the pump in place.

Step 3 – Install New Pump

Get the new pump and place inside a mesh filter bag. This will help to prevent build-up of scale on the new pump. It also contributes towards optimal performance of your swamp cooler. Place the pump inside the water reservoir. Use a pair of pliers to secure the brackets onto the pump. Mark a point about 2 inches away from the end of the hose on both ends. Place a hose ring clamp on both of the marked points.

Attach one end of the new hose to the new pump at the output nozzle. The other end should be attached to the water distributor found above the pads. Push the clamps closer to the end of the hose. Leave a space of about ½ an inch from the end and tighten the clamps.

Step 4 – Maintenance

It is a good idea to do some maintenance while you have your cooler unit open. Inspect the drive belt to ensure that it is securely in place. Remove the water tray and empty the water. Wash with warm water and a mild detergent. Use a soft bristle brush to clear away dirt.

Rinse the tray and dry with an old towel before you place it back in the cooler at the bottom. Lubricate the fan so that it runs smoothly once the unit is operational. Place in new pads. Ensure that the water level is appropriate and adjust the float valve to the same level.

Step 5 – Restore Housing

Place back the side panel and insert the screws. Secure with screwdriver. Once you restore the power supply to the cooler, your appliance should give you perfect service.
