Vinyl baseboard is one of the most versatile types of baseboards that you can install around the perimeter of the room. Replacing the vinyl baseboard is a simple task that anyone should be able to do. Here are the basics of how to replace a vinyl baseboard.
Step 1 - Remove the Baseboard
The first thing that you need to do is remove your vinyl baseboard. Depending on how well the baseboard is attached, you may be able to just grab it and pull it off. If it is stuck pretty well, you may need to use a utility knife to pry it off of the wall. Try and keep the paint from coming off with the baseboard.
Step 2 - Apply Adhesive
Once you have removed the old baseboard, you need to apply the adhesive to the back of the vinyl baseboard. You need to make sure that you have the proper adhesive for the job. It is often referred to as cove base adhesive. Apply a bead of adhesive to the back of the baseboard. Then spread it over the back with a small trowel.
Step 3 - Install the Baseboards
After you have applied the adhesive, press the baseboard firmly onto the wall. You can cut the baseboards as you need to with a utility knife. Once they are all installed, allow them to dry thoroughly.
