Pets, children and use can leave you needing to replace a vertical blind vanes. You can make repairs yourself, and save yourself some money in the process.
Step 1 - Prepare Blinds
Start by closing the blinds so they cover the window or door, and then adjust the blinds so that the vanes are sideways for better access.
Step 2 - Remove Spacer Chain
For aluminum vanes with a spacer chain, remove the screw or tie-down clip that secures the end of the chain. Feed the chain out through as many other vanes as necessary to get to the damaged one.
Step 3 - Remove Old Vane
To remove the damaged vane, grab the top of the vane with one hand and grasp the plastic hanger with the other. Lift up on the vane to slide it off of the small hook.
Step 4 - Install New Vane
To install a new vane, orient its curve in the same direction as those of the other vanes. Grasp the vane near the top and gently slide it into the hook.
Step 5 - Threading the Chain
Thread the chain through the replacement vane and through all the other vanes until you reach the chain-anchor point. To maintain spacing, cut a piece of cardboard to the appropriate length to use as a guide. Insert the cardboard between the last installed vane and the next one.
