How to Replace Living Room Shelves
If your living room shelves are a bit old and worn it may be time to replace them. Replacing your living room shelves is not difficult once you know all the steps.
You Will Need:
- Screw gun or drill
- Shelf brackets
- Shelves
- Stud finder
- Pencil
- level
Step 1: Locate the Place of Installation
Decide where you wish to place your new living room shelves first.
Step 2: Locate the Studs
Use the stud finder to locate the closest stud to where you want the living room shelves. You will need to attach the shelves to the stud as any weight placed on your shelves will cause the shelf to fall and pull out of the wall unless properly anchored.
Step 3: Mark the Wall
Mark the wall with the location of the studs. You can also use one of the shelves as a straight edge to mark the level so that you install the living room shelves straight.
Step 4: Use Your Screw Gun or Drill
Use your screw gun or drill to install the first bracket. Once it is installed use the shelf balanced on it to mark the place for the other bracket by placing one end of the shelf on the bracket and, while holding the other end, put your level on top of the shelf and mark the spot on the wall that is level.
Step 5: Install the Other Bracket
The next step is to install the other bracket where you marked the wall. Make sure it is straight. Also use the earthquake straps here.
Step 6: Done
Place the living room shelf on the brackets and you are done.
