Replacing motorcycle turn signals is indeed a do it yourself project. You need not look for a professional to fix this problem. Read on to find out how to replace motorcycle turn signals.

Step 1 – Prep Work

The first step in replacing the motorcycle turn signals is to dismantle the lower fairing to avoid any damages. Removing the fairing will help you access the wires of the motorcycle turn signals at the front.

Step 2 – Wiring

The wiring for the motorcycle turn signals have to be located at the front as well as the rear. The wiring for the motorcycle turn signals at the rear is generally located below the seat. It could also be located at the rear. In this case, you will have to take off the tail piece.

Step 3 – Color Coding

Generally the wires are color coded, and disconnecting them is not a hassle. But if they are not then it would be advisable to stick distinct tapes on them so that reconnecting the motorcycle turn signals will not be a problem.

Step 4 – Disconnecting the Wiring

After taking note of the wiring, the next step is to disconnect the wiring of the motorcycle turn signals. If the motorcycle turn signals are connected by box connection then all you have to do is to clip off the male and female ends.

Step 5 – Locating the Bolt

The next step in replacing the motorcycle turn signals is to locate the bolt that holds it in position. The bolt is usually held in place by screws and washers.

Step 6 – Removing the Bolt

After locating the bolt, you will have to remove it. Take the screw off and use a wrench to slide the motorcycle turn signals out of the vehicle.

Step 7 – Inserting the New Motorcycle Turn Signals

Now that the old motorcycle turn signals are out, it is time to place the new one. The wires on the motorcycle turn signals have to be routed thorough rubber grommet and then should follow the route where the old motorcycle turn signals were located.

Step 8 – Fasten

Once the wiring has been established make sure the motorcycle turn signals sits in the housing properly.

Step 9 – Wiring

Make sure the motorcycle turn signals connect to the right slots. As you had marked them earlier, there should not be any confusion.

Step 10 – Box Connector

If the new motorcycle turn signals did not come with a box connector you will have to manually connect the wiring. Cut half inch of plastic off the wire and solder then with the old wires connected to the motorcycle.

Step 11 – Test

Step 10 completes the installation of the motorcycle turn signals. Now test the installation by turning the power on. Check if the turn signals are working.

Step 12 – Final Step

If all is well, then reattach the fairing. Also put tail piece back in place. Make sure all the units that were removed are reconnected.
