How to Seal Travertine Bathroom Countertops

Your bathroom countertops take a lot of abuse over the years. If they are made of travertine, you must ensure that they are properly sealed in order to handle every day use and abuse. Here are the basics of how to seal a travertine bathroom countertop.

Step 1 - Clean the Countertop

Thoroughly clean the travertine with warm water and a rag. If that doesn't work, use a specially formulated travertine cleaner. If you do not remove all of the dirt and oils from the countertop, it will be sealed in under the sealer.

Step 2 - Apply the Sealer

Once the surface has dried, apply the sealer. Use a penetrating sealer that is designed for travertines. Use a rag to apply the sealer evenly over the entire travertine surface.

Step 3 - Second Coat

Allow the first coat to dry. Apply a second coat. Use the rag and the sealer to cover the surface again, then let it dry thoroughly before using your countertop.
