A cover for your footstool is not only a decorative statement, but also great protection for your furniture. Making a footstool cover is fairly simple if you follow these three steps.

Step 1 - Measuring

Start with your measuring tape in the middle of the footstool and measure to where you want your cover to hang. Then multiply that number by two to cover the other side. Measure the other sides of the footstool using the same method. Add an inch to your measurements so that you can make a seam.

Step 2 - Pinning

Take your fabric and center it on top of the footstool with the underside facing you. Place something on top of the fabric so it does not move. Then from each corner of the footstool, pinch the fabric together all the way to the end so that it makes a point. Use your straight pins to secure the fabric. Repeat this on each corner.

Step 3 - Sewing

Before you sew the darts, turn the cover over and place it on the footstool to make sure it fits the way you want it. Then sew according to where your pins are and sew a 1-inch seam all the way around.
