If you're lucky enough to have a meat slicer among your kitchen appliances, you'll want to know how to sharpen the meat slicer blade. This usually dulls after being used for some time. Sharpening the blade will preserve its quality and make it last longer. Below are the materials that you need along with the instructions on how to sharpen a meat slicer blade.
Step 1: Sharpening Stones
Purchase sharpening stones from your local hardware store. Some meat slicers are not equipped with sharpening stones, so be sure to buy a sharpening stone if your meat slicer does not have one.
Step 2: Place Sharpening Stones on Meat Slicer
Take the sharpening stones and place them securely on your meat slicer. Some meat slicers come with sharpening stones already. You can refer to the user’s manual of your meat slicer to learn how to attach the sharpening stones onto the meat slicer.
Step 3: Clean Blade of Meat Slicer
The blade of your meat slicer must be clean before you start sharpening it. Carefully apply or pour rubbing alcohol on the blade of the meat slicer to clean and disinfect it. You can also rinse the blade by running it under clean water after to get rid of all dirt. A clean blade is easier to sharpen as dirt and food particles will not be in the way.
Step 4: Sharpening Locking Knob
Find the locking knob of your meat slicer. It can be found at the bottom left area at the base shaft. The locking knob looks like a black plastic knob.
Step 5: Lock Blade and Sharpening Stones in Place
Once you have located the knob, unscrew it from the base shaft. Insert the sharpening stones onto the base shaft area of the meat slicer. Once the sharpening stones are settled on the base shaft, screw the knob back in place. Place the meat slicer blade on the sharpening stones. Completely tighten the sharpening locking knob until you feel a click. This sound ndicates that everything is in place.
Step 6: Turn On Meat Slicer
Plug in the meat slicer and switch it on to sharpen the blades. Let them sharpen for about 30 seconds. Turn the sharpener off for 4 seconds, then repeat the process 3 times.
Step 7: Remove Sharpening Stone
Unscrew the knob and slide the sharpening stones off towards the left side of the base shaft. Return the meat slicer to the right side of the base shaft. After this, tighten the sharpener locking knob back in place.
Step 8: Clean Blade
Using rubbing alcohol again, carefully clean the blade and rinse it off with water. This will get rid of whatever metal particles may have generated from the sharpening.
