How to Shorten Vinyl Vertical Blinds

What You'll Need
Measuring tape
Flat strait edge (ruler is good)

If the vinyl vertical blinds you purchased are too long for the window opening in your home, you will need to shorten the length of the blinds. This simple guide will show you everything you need to know in order the cut your vertical blinds down to size.

Step 1 - Remove the Blinds

First, remove the vertical blinds by slipping them off of the hooks that hold them onto the rod. Then, place them on a flat surface so that you can cut them.

Step 2 - Measure Window Opening

Use your measuring tape and measure the vertical height distance of the window opening (from the where the rod will be to an inch or so above floor level).

Step 3 - Mark and Cut Blinds

Transfer the measurement of your window opening onto one of the vertical blinds. Make a cutting line for the measurement by using a pencil and straight edge. Then, take the pair of scissors and slowly cut across the cutting line. Do this for all the blinds.

Step 4 - Clean Up the Edges

Use a piece of fine grit sandpaper to gently sand the edges of the vertical blinds where you made the cuts with the scissors. This will help remove any burrs or sharp edges on the blinds.

Step 5 - Reattach Blinds

After you finish cutting all the blinds, simply hang them back on the hanging hooks attached to the rod.
