How to Smooth Rough Granite Edges
Once you’ve finished installing your new granite countertop for your kitchen, you may notice that the granite edges are not perfect, and may be a bit rough. You can smooth out these edges, in order to finish the job, and make your countertop more appealing and elegant. This job does not take too much time, and you can do it in half a day or so.
Step 1: Determine the Right Tools
Depending on how big your counter top is, you have to determine whether you will use a diamond honing stone or a honing machine. If it is a small counter, you can do everything manually.
Step 2: Rubbing the Granite Edges
Get your diamond honing stone and rub the rough granite edges at a 45-degree angle. Then shift to a 25-degree angle. Keep alternating between these 2 degrees, in order to achieve round and smooth edges.
Step 3: Finishing
Once you’ve smoothed out the edges, switch to a resin-bonded honing stone for a finer finish. Use the same process as with the diamond honing stone. It’s like using a finer grit of sandpaper. Clean the granite countertop edges, and remove the dust and debris, to appreciate the work you’ve just done.
