How to Soften Acrylic Sheet How to Soften Acrylic Sheet

What You'll Need
Strip heater
Acrylic sheets
Knife
Gloves

To soften acrylic sheet, extensive care must be taken about the temperature. Do not use the standard kitchen oven to soften the acrylic sheet as it could catch fire.

Step 1: Apply the Protective Covering

Apply the protective covering on both sides of the acrylic sheet and the area that needs to be softened. It is important not to put excessive pressure on the knife as it could cut through the protective covering and cause damage to the acrylic sheet surface.

Step 2: Heating the Surface

Position the surface over the strip heater. Turn on the strip heater and allow the acrylic sheet to be heated until it reaches the proper temperature. The ideal temperature must be between 340 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Toss the acrylic sheet to heat the other side if the sheet is thick. However, if the sheet is thin, this step is not necessary.

Step 3: Shaping the Sheet

Before the acrylic sheet cools below 340 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the forming surface, mold it in the desired shape and size.

Step 4: Drying the Sheet

Allow the sheet to be air-dried. Repeat the process of necessary if there are other areas of the sheet that need to be softened.
