Tips to Transplant Jasmine

Jasmine is a wonderful plant that has uniquely scented flowers. It can be grown in many areas around the world and is fairly easy to grow.

1. Growing Jasmine

Jasmine can be grown from either seeds or cuttings. Either way it's best to start the plant off in pots or seed trays until it is more established. Once it has established you can start transplanting the plants outside into your garden. When growing jasmine the plants need to be kept in moist, well-draining soil. Note that the rate of growth often drops once moved outside since they grow faster indoors.

2. Transplanting Jasmine

If you are starting the seedlings in trays or pots, it's likely that you will have to separate them at some time in the future. The plants will grow and need more place. Eventually they will be big enough to transplant out into the garden. This is actually a very easy process.

When digging up the jasmine from the pots you need to be very careful. You can't simply pull the plant up by the leaves because there's a very good chance that the plants will fall apart. Actually you need to carefully use your fingers to dig up the plants without causing any damage or harm to the root structure.

3. Choosing a Location

When it comes to replanting the Jasmine you need to start by digging a hole in your garden. It's important to choose an area that receives enough sunlight as this will allow the plant to grow as big as possible. When choosing the location think about the scent.

Many people like to smell jasmine and so you might like to plant this under the window or by an outdoor seating area so that they can benefit from this smell. Dig a hole in the ground twice as big as the root-ball of the plant you are transplanting. For best success you should plant the jasmine plants outdoors during cool times of the year. If you plant them out when it's too hot then this can kill the plants.

Jasmine can be grown up a wall or trellis, or as a shrub in the garden.

4. Re-Planting Jasmine

Jasmine plants are very resistant once they are established. However, young plants will not be able to cope with very high temperatures during the summer months. The best times of the year to plant these are in the very early spring or in mid-fall.

If you have decided to plant more than one jasmine, leave eight feet between the plants. This will give the plants enough space to grow into healthy adult plants.

Once the plants are in the holes fill with compost or soil and press down firmly.

5. Watering

It's important to keep the soil moist and you should be watering the plant on a daily basis until it is a bigger, well-established plant.
