Concrete texture rollers are a convenient as well as inexpensive option to add to the beauty and value of all types of decorative concrete projects. As the name suggests, a concrete texture roller is in the form of a cylindrical tool that can be used to adorn the concrete’s exposed surface. Made using polyurethane, a concrete roller helps to create a level pattern on the concrete surface, with the added benefit that it prevents the chances of unappealing grasses growing in between the splits. Even though it is mostly light weight and easy to use, a concrete texture roller must be used carefully to get the desired result.
Step 1: Selection of Right Concrete Texture Roller
With a variety of concrete texture rollers to choose from, you can easily find one that suits your pocket and preferences. However, make sure that the texture roller you have chosen for your concrete surface will match with its surrounding environment. For example, if you want to texture the concrete surface of driveway or porch, it will be a good choice to opt for a texture roller with a broom finish, as it provides a slip-resistant surface. Likewise, rock salt texture roller serves as an excellent option to provide an elegant appearance to the concrete surface. A number of other choices are also available for texturing the concrete surfaces, such as large tree bark roller and Italian slate roller.
Step 2: Preparing the Concrete Surface
Pour the concrete and then flatten, as well as float it, just as you usually do for laying a footpath or yard. Make sure that the concrete surface has a thickness of at least 5 inches. If you want, you may color it, either by blending it with concrete materials or by spraying color on the concrete surface.
Step 3: Application of Release Agent
Once you have properly erected the concrete slab, apply a release agent on both roller and concrete’s surface. Concrete release agents are chemical agents that not only prevent concrete stamps from sticking to the fresh concrete, but also imparts an amazing surface finish to the concrete slab.
Step 4: Working with Concrete Texture Roller
Before rolling the stamp, imprint a straight line close to the edges. This will help you to easily carry out the texturing task. Now, position the texture rollers onto the concrete and gradually push and pull it over the concrete surface in order to create a fine imprint of brick, pebble, stone, or any other design. Since texture rollers mostly come with weight systems, it will help you to use the device according to the varied concrete environments. You can use concrete tools like trowels to touch up those areas that have not been properly stamped. Allow it to dry for at least 24 hours. After having completely dried, use a pressure washer to remove the release agent. Above all, you can apply a clear sealant to enhance the appearance of the patterned concrete surface.
