How to Use a Hilti Gun
A Hilti gun is a powder-actuated tool that fires nails directly on your material using a powder charge. It is usually used when trying to attach wood to concrete because of its durability and toughness. However, you need to know exactly how to use this power tool appropriately; understand the basics and you will surely get your project done in no time.
Powder-actuated nail guns are comparable to blank firearm cartridges where the nail is shot and the explosive powder helps release the nails towards the muzzle and pin down the materials you have pointed it towared.
Step 1 – Remove the Old Cartridges
When loading a gun, you need to make sure that it is not facing you. Just point it at the ground to avoid accidents. Reloading a Hilti gun depends on the model that you have but basically you just need to press the release button located at the handle to remove the cartridge out of the grip. Insert new ones. It should be extended from the base along with the rod. Push the new cartridges inside the grip.
Step 2 – Load up the Nails
As mentioned above, the type of Hilti guns differ from each other and so do their function. However for a single-shot model, you need to load the nail one at a time. Just push the nail into the end of the gun until you hear a click that it is in place. When doing this, you need to be careful as to where you point your gun for it may cause accident. Your hands should be away from the tip of the gun.
For units that use a nail strip, you just need to open the nail slot by pulling the release lever which is located above the barrel close to the end. Put in the nails making sure that the head goes inside first and then push the lever to lock the nail inside.
Step 3 – Get Your Materials Ready
Clear the place where your material is located in which you plan to use this gun. Make sure that your working area is free of people in case of accidents. You do not want to be distracted when handling a power tool like this one.
Step 4 – Point the Gun
Set the gun’s tip on the exact spot where the nail is needed. Pull the trigger as lightly as you can, and the tool will help itself get the job done. Reload the gun with nails as needed along the way and you can have your project finished without effort. However, safety must be taken into account when dealing with power tool like this one.
Step 5 – Tuck It Away
When you are finished with the gun, make sure that it is not loaded with nails and you keep it in a child-free area.
