How to Use Well Water Treatment Tablets
If you have well water you may need information about well water treatment. Any do-it-yourself homeowner can use treatment tablets to successfully treat well water.
Step 1 - Determine Proper Amount
You will need to know how many tablets are required to remove bacteria from your water. The amount is based upon the cubic gallons of water in your well. This information is usually on the bulkhead of the well or the paperwork that came with your home. Use this number, along with the package instructions, to calculate how many tablets you should use.
Step 2 - Treat Water
Turn off the well pump. If you have a water softener, put it in bypass mode. Wear your gloves and goggles, as the chemicals in the tablets can be harsh on your skin and eyes. Put about 2-3 gallons of water into the bucket and add the tablets. Stir until they dissolve. Pour the mixture into your well, then put the garden hose into the bulkhead and let it run for at least 20 minutes.
Let the well water sit without use for 24 hours. After that amount of time, turn on several faucets in your house and let them run until you smell chlorine. You can then take your water softener out of bypass mode and use your water as usual.
