How to Wash Dog Car Seat Covers
Dog car seat covers are a great way to keep dog fur and dander off of your car seats, but you must remember to wash them frequently in order to keep your car clean and fresh. Most dog car seat covers are machine washable. Check the label to be sure.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Vacuum, preferably with handheld carpet attachment
- Washing machine and detergent, carpet shampooer or detergent and cloth
- Baking soda
- Scrub brush
Step 1 - Dry Vacuum the Seat Covers
Dog fur can be especially clingy to fabrics and dog car seat covers. The best way to get fur off the seat covers is to thoroughly vacuum the seat covers prior to washing them. Using a handheld carpet attachment is the best way to lift fur fibers off of the material.
Step 2 - Wash the Seat Covers
You can use a washing machine, a carpet shampooer or detergent and a cloth to wash the dog car seat covers. If using detergent and a cloth, simply wet the entire surface of the seat covers, pour a small amount of detergent on the cloth and scrub the covers.
Step 3 - Scrub Stains Out
If your method of cleaning still left some stains, you can scrub them out by hand. Wet the stains and then sprinkle them with a liberal amount of baking soda and use a scrub brush to work in the soda. Allow it to sit overnight, and then dry vacuum the soda away.
