How to Wash Lined Curtains

What You'll Need
Large basin or bathtub
Mild detergent
Vacuum cleaner

Quality lined curtains can make all the difference to the amount of light that a room gets, but you will need to take steps to keep them in good condition. Following the steps for properly washing the curtains will allow you to ensure the task is effective.

Step 1 – Vacuum

Vacuuming lined curtains before washing them is beneficial in allowing you to remove any excess dirt that may affect them. Gently draw the vacuum nozzle vertically down the material before taking them down in readiness for washing.

Step 2 – Prepare

Prepare to wash the lined curtains by checking the manufacturer’s instructions first, which will vary according to the fabric from which they are made. Do not hand wash if it recommends dry clean only. If you can use a washing machine, determine what type of cycle is needed. Fill a large basin or bathtub with tepid water and some mild detergent.

Step 3 – Wash and Dry

Wash the lined curtains in a container that is large enough to accommodate it comfortably. Do not leave it to soak, and only use a gentle washing cycle. Take steps to dry them immediately after washing, making sure that wrinkles are immediately flattened out.
