How to Waterproof Dog Beds

The purpose of a waterproof dog bed is to protect the foam interior of the bed from water damage. If your dog urinates in bed, is sick in bed, or comes in from the rain and lies in the bed then this can require the foam to be washed.
Step 1 - Clean the Dog Bed
Before waterproofing an existing dog bed, make sure the dog bed is clean. If it is not, then you will need to wash the cover in the washing machine and the foam bed in the bath with some detergent. Make sure everything is dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 2 - Wrap the Foam in a Bin Liner
Trash can liners are inexpensive and you are likely to have one at hand in your home, making them the perfect solution for a dog with a stomach bug. Wrap the bin liner around the foam and secure it in place with duct tape.
Step 3 - Replace the Cover
Slide the foam bed into the cover and zip it up. If the dog is sick or urinates, then you only need to wash the cover and throw out the bin liner rather than washing the foam as well.
Step 4 - Wrap the Foam in a Space Blanket
A space blanket, aka weather blanket or emergency blanket, is thicker than a bin liner and also waterproof; therefore it is more practical for moisture situations such as a dog with a weak bladder. Simply repeat Steps 2 and 3 to waterproof a dog bed.
