A refrigerator outlet is a special type of outlet designed to provide power to your fridge. Although this outlet is mounted behind the fridge it's very easy for it to become damaged. This may mean that you will need to replace a refrigerator outlet.
If you're moving the fridge then you might also need to know how to wire a refrigerator outlet. The process of wiring a new outlet and replacing an outlet is practically identical.
Step 1 - Turning Off the Power
The first and most important thing to do is to ensure that you are completely safe. Electricity has changed the entire world, however it is very dangerous. Even when you are installing a new outlet it's a good idea to turn the power off at the circuit breaker. If you don't know which circuit breaker to turn off then you will need to turn off all of the power to your home. Turning off the complete house power is another option if you're not sure which circuit breakers you should use.
Step 2 - Preparation
You must do plenty of preparation including the new outlet. You will also need wire strippers, wire and screwdrivers to complete the job. By preparing these things in advance you will find it much easier to complete the project on time.
Step 3 - Fixing the Outlet
To fix the outlet you will need to mark the location of the outlet on the wall and then use a drill to cut the area out. Once the box has been fitted it's time to wire the outlet.
Step 4 - Wiring the Outlet
Now the refrigerator outlet needs to be wired up. If you look on the back of the outlet then you should see the wiring color scheme, this should help you to decide where the wires should be connected. Normally the left terminal will be connected to the black wire, the right to the white wire. The grounding screw is normally found at the top of the outlet and is connected to either the green wire or the bare copper wire.
When connecting the wires make sure that everything is neat and tidy. You need to be very careful that you don't accidentally short out any of the terminals. It's much easier to make neat connections if you bend the wire around the screw in a U shape as this will keep everything much easier.
Step 5 - Wiring the Fuse Board
Once the outlet has been connected it's then time to connect the wire to the circuit breaker and then install this on the bus bar in your homes power panel.
Step 6 - Testing
Now switch the power back on and check that everything works. If you find that the electricity keeps on tripping then this is probably caused because of some problems with your connections. Check the connections carefully to ensure that there are no loose or shorted connections.
