Indoor Swimming Pool Temperature Regulation Indoor Swimming Pool Temperature Regulation

Indoor swimming pools are very popular for exercise and therapy. They are a useful form of exercise because they do not cause any harm to joints or ligaments. These are ideal treatments for a wide range of different medical conditions such as multiple sclerosis and arthritis. The water will carry your weight which means you don't need to worry about any pain or damage.

If the water is not heated then swimmers will often be very uncomfortable, even if it's very hot outside. There are a few different ways of heating pools depending on the utilities you have available.

Propane Heaters

Propane heaters work in a similar way to natural gas heaters but are suitable even if you don't have natural gas available. Propane is stored in large cylinders which can be ordered in a similar way to oil. Running these heaters are slightly more expensive than natural gas. Propane can be dangerous and you should hire a gas engineer to connect the heaters.

Gas Heaters

A gas heater is the same as a propane heater but this uses natural gas. The advantage of these systems is that they can heat the water to virtually any temperature you desire regardless of the weather and the temperature outside. A gas heater should be installed by a qualified gas engineer to ensure it's safely fitted.

Solar Heaters

Solar heaters for your pool are a fairly new idea but have become ery popular thanks to ever increasing oil and gas prices. Solar panels are strapped to the roof of your indoor pool building and water is pumped through these pipes. The idea is pretty simple but very effective, it actually works in the same way as if you leave a hose pipe out in the sun. The suns rays will heat the water up for free.

These systems should be able to last for the next 20-30 years with minimal maintenance. This means that throughout their lifetime they will be providing lots of free hot water. The only real problem with these systems is that their effectiveness will depend on the weather outside.

Heat Pumps

An electric heat pump works like an air conditioning unit but instead of cooling the air down they heat the water up. Heat pumps can heat the water faster than solar panels but will use electricity. This means that they can be a fairly expensive option for many people. Their performance also wont be affected as much by weather conditions.

Heat pumps are also more expensive to install than other forms of heating. It is important to decide whether the extra cost is really worth it.

Thermostats

A thermostat is used to control the temperature of the water by controlling the heat of the heater. This will allow your heater to automatically fire up when required, and also shut down when its not. A thermostat is a very important part of any pool temperature regulation system.
