Install a Water Powered Sump Pump
Water powered sump pumps are used to avoid the damage from basement floods which cause water logging and pooling. These pumps prevent water from pooling inside by pumping and draining it outside the building. A water-powered sump pump is an optimum choice for all the problems related to collection of water due to various different reasons; moreover, it is very affordable. In cases when there are year-round heavy rains, it makes sense to install a backup sump pump as well, which need not be battery powered and can help pump sump water until you can get your main sump pump running again.
Step 1 - Getting Started
Installing a water powered sump pump is a time consuming process that requires breaking through concrete. Before breaking through, ensure that your main water and sewer line’s location is apparent.
Diagnose the problem before installing the pump. Take a good look at the drainage around your house and make sure that it isn't an external drainage problem, like clogged gutters. Choosing the right equipment is very important for efficiency and convenience. Choose the right place for the sump pump, which should be conveniently accessible.
Step 2 - Installing the Water Powered Sump Pump
Use the jackhammer to break out the concrete at the lowest point on the floor. Make the opening near an exterior wall. Cut out a section which is 6-inches wider than the pit liner. The depth of the pit should be equal to that of the liner. Fit the liner in the pit and fill it with gravel. Use concrete to seal the space between the edge of the pit and the floor.
Drill a hole in an exterior wall with a diameter matching that of the discharge pipe. Put the discharge pipe into the hole and caulk around it using the caulking gun. Connect the discharge fitting and set the pump into the bottom of the pit after binding the electrical cords of the pump to the riser with vinyl electrical tape. Position the pump so that the float is several inches away from the liner for smooth and easy movement. Install the liner lid over the riser.
Using the PVC pipe, connect the discharge fitting to the discharge pipe on the exterior wall. Install the check valve between the discharge fitting and the PVC pipe. The check valve keeps the pump motor from burning out. Use the PVC cement to seal the pipe’s connections.
Step 3 - Testing
Pour 5 gallons of water into the liner and turn on the pump to check its functionality. Run the pump for several minutes every now and then, especially prior to the rainy season, to guarantee that it is working properly.
The water power sump pump will be installed successfully without any problems if the above mentioned steps are followed carefully.
