Install Hanging Shelves in 4 Easy Steps Install Hanging Shelves in 4 Easy Steps

What You'll Need
2-Adjustable shelf brackets
Shelf supports (2/shelf)
Wire shelves
Wood screws
90-pound drywall anchors (optional)
Tape Measure
Level
Drill and Phillips head screwdriver bit

Hanging shelves can be used on walls in any room to store entertainment centers, books, and just about anything. Adjustable shelf systems are great for use in closets for organization. Adjustable brackets require just a hand-held drill and a little time to complete installation.

Step 1 - Mark Bracket Placement

The brackets for the hanging shelves will be placed as wide apart as the shelves you have chosen. If you are able to attach both brackets along studs, you will need only to use 2-inch drywall screws. Otherwise, you will need to use drywall anchors as well. Starting with the left wall bracket, determine the desired height of the bracket. With a drywall screw, mark the wall through the top hole in the bracket (a pencil will not fit into the hole).

Step 2 - Install Left Side Adjustable Bracket

If using drywall anchors, set the bracket aside, and carefully install the top anchor with the drill at the point you marked in the previous step. Holding the bracket snug to the wall, install the top screw with the drill into the wall/anchor just tight enough to hold the bracket in place. Level the bracket and repeat for the remaining screws, working down from the top. Tighten all the screws.

Step 3 - Install Right Side Adjustable Bracket

Place level on top of the installed bracket. Use a tape measure to determine the location of the right side bracket, and mark it with a pencil. Repeat the procedure in step 2.

Step 4 - Assemble the Shelves

Snap shelf supports into brackets as desired. Attach hanging shelves to supports.
