Installing a Baseboard Diffuser
A baseboard diffuser will direct the air from a furnace entering your living room. The ductwork in the house will determine the kind of diffuser you will need. There are many kinds of diffusers available to choose from. They are wall, floor, ceiling and baseboard. The most common diffuser that is used is the baseboard diffuser.
There are two different types of diffuser for baseboards. One is a baseboard diffuser and the other is a baseboard register diffuser. You will only need a couple of tools to install one. So here are a few simple and easy instructions on installing a baseboard diffuser.
Tools and Materials
- Baseboard diffuser
- Tape measure
- Cordless drill
- Stud finder
- Screws
Step 1: Measuring for the Size of the Diffuser
Grab the tape measure and measure the height and width. This determines the size of the diffuser you will need for the duct. When you go out to buy the diffuser, the sizes in which they come in are always measured by width first. You may also get a baseboard register diffuser and this type of diffuser must be bigger than the duct outlet.
Step 2: Picking the Design You Want
When you are choosing your design, there are many different types of baseboard diffuser. There will be a style that will suit your needs.
Step 3: Positioning the Diffuser
Now that you have your diffuser, it's time to place it's framework over the duct. You must slowly press it into its spot and make sure that you center the opening of the duct. Make sure that there is plenty of space for the distribution of the air. If you buy your diffuser and you choose one that has a register, there must be room for some air to be distributed through the register.
Step 4: Screwing the Diffuser Down
Now that you have the baseboard diffuser in place, go ahead and screw it down. Make sure you check that the diffuser is secured tightly and doesn't move. Once this is done, this diffuser is fully installed. To operate it, move the lever on the side of the diffuser to change how much or how little air you want to come through.
If you are using the baseboard register diffuser you will need a stud finder to find the studs in the wall. Use a level to find the studs, as well. Once you have the studs, mark them and secure the screws into the framework of the register and into the studs. You never want any of the studs being driven in the drywall, as the framework will not be as strong.
Step 5: Placing the Baseboard Register Diffuser over Framework
Now place the baseboard register diffuser over the framework. Once it is in place, grab the cordless drill and screw the diffuser onto the framework. Now it's fully installed. To operate it, move the lever on the side to adjust the amount of air coming through. Now you know how to install a baseboard diffuser.
