Installing a hamster water bottle is the cleanest and easiest way to provide your hamsters with clean water. In order to stay healthy, hamsters require a constant clean water supply, which a hamster water bottle can provide. Using a bowl instead of a water bottle requires you to do more cleaning up than necessary. Anything, such as food, bedding, or even feces, can get into the bowl of water. You do not have to worry about your pet hamster drinking the polluted water from the bowl and getting sick. You also do not need to constantly fish debris out of the bowl. Installing a hamster water bottle allows you to clean your hamster cage with ease without worrying about knocking the bowl over and spilling the water, which can cause more mess. Follow the simple step-by-step instructions below to install the water bottle on your hamster cage.
Tools and Materials Needed for the Job
- Hamster Water Bottle
- Hamster Cage
Step 1 – Determine Your Hamster Cage Type and Size
Determine the type and size of your hamster cage. Small cages usually have both solid sides and wire sides.
Step 2 – Purchase the Hamster Water Bottle
Choose and buy the hamster water bottle according to the size of the cage. If the cage is small, do not buy a big water bottle. To prevent the hamster water bottle from being chewed on by your hamsters, purchase holder-type water bottle with a nozzle. Such a holder can prevent the hamsters from gnawing at the bottle, and thus extend its life.
Step 3 – Install the Hamster Water Bottle Holder to the Cage
Unpack the hamster water bottle from the packaging. Do not destroy the packaging, as you may need the instructions for installing the water bottle. There should be a movable tab located at the back of the hamster water bottle holder. If you have a solid-sided hamster cage, set the water bottle holder over the ledge at the top. If the cage is wire-sided, simply slip the holder between 2 bars, and move it down to fix it into its place. Adjust the height of the holder up or down based on your hamster’s height.
Step 4 – Fill the Hamster Water Bottle with Water
Unscrew the water bottle’s nozzle at the top. Then, fill it up with regular tap water at room temperature. After filling it up, screw the nozzle back.
Step 5 – Install the Hamster Water Bottle
Insert the hamster water bottle into the holder. Make sure that the water bottle’s nozzle faces downwards so that your pet hamsters can have easy access. Then, stretch out the adjustable metal band that is located at the holder’s middle, and let it go over the water bottle. This secures and holds the bottle in its place.
Step 6 – Monitor the Water Bottle
Monitor the hamster water bottle once in a while to be sure that your hamsters do not dislodge it. Make sure that it remains in an upright position.
