Installing Mini Blinds on French Doors
French doors are really elegant doors that can be added to any interior room. They not only provide a little bit of privacy between rooms but they also allow the light to flow from one room to the other. Some homeowners like to add french doors extending from the kitchen to the outside. Since the french door does expose light, it also gives someone the freedom of looking into your home through the glass. To add a little bit of privacy, install a set of mini blinds. Mini blinds will not take away from the look and feel of the french doors. Here is a step-by-step guide to installing mini blinds on your french doors.
Measure the Windows
Measure the windows on each of the french doors. Take your measuring tape and measure from corner to corner both vertically and horizontally.
Purchase Mini Blinds
Take a trip to your local home improvement center and find your size of mini blinds. If the home improvement center does not carry the exact size then you have a couple of options. First, you can order your mini blinds to fit your window as a custom order. Second, there are some home improvement centers that will cut the mini blinds to size right in front of you. In either case, you should be able to either walk out or have your mini blinds mailed over to you in a relatively short period of time.
Purchase Mini Blind Hardware
Some mini blinds will come with the hardware already pre-packaged. If your set does not come pre-packaged, then purchase a mini blind installation kit separately. They also make mini blind installation kits specifically for french doors.
Review Manufacturer's Instructions
Take your mini blinds and mini blind kit out of the package and pull out the manufacturer's directions. Review the directions thoroughly.
Clean the Glass
Clean your glass windows on the french doors. Use a cleaner that is specially designed to clean glass and wipe it away with a soft cloth.
Remove Spacers
Some French doors have spacers. The spacers will impede the movement of the mini blinds. Remove the spacers. They can be removed by pulling them off.
