To give your wall a dramatic effect while retaining a natural look, putting on slate wall tiles will accomplish this. The layered texture of this type of tile transforms a dull wall into something dashing. So if you want to try the effect of these tiles on your walls, here are easy to follow steps to accomplish this task.
- Slate wall tiles
- Tape measure
- Mixing bit
- Mortar mix
- Wet saw
Step 1 – Mark the Guide for Tile Installation
To make installation easier and to ensure that you will only purchase the necessary pieces of tiles, you must mark the spot in which to install the tiles. Measure 12 inches from the end of the floor and mark this spot. Create a horizontal line across the wall passing through the marked spot. This will serve as the baseline where you will install the first row of tiles.
Step 2 – Prepare the Mortar
Pour water into a bucket, about ¼ full, and slowly add mortar mix using the drill and mixing bit. Continue adding mortar mix until you reach a creamy consistency. Make sure that the mixture is not too wet nor too dry.
Step 3 – Installation of the First Row of Tiles
Apply an ample amount of mortar on the back of the first tile. Place the tile above the horizontal line you created earlier. Make sure that you align the tiles perfectly as it will determine the overall alignment of the tiles on the wall. Continue placing the tiles until you reach the last section of the wall of the first row. Before installing the last piece, measure the size of the space and cut the tiles according to the size of the space. Use a wet saw to cut the tile before you apply mortar on the wall.
