Is cedar or vinyl siding more eco friendly? Is cedar or vinyl siding more eco friendly?

The cedar / vinyl siding debate inevitably turns to discussions about the environment and which material is more eco-friendly. Cedar siding is made from wood. It is not made of composite or recycled wood, but from the wood of a cedar tree. Cedar has properties that allow it to last for decades as siding. Once it is past its useful life, it can be recycled into something else.

Vinyl siding, on the other hands is made using harmful chemicals or from recycled plastic and building materials. As much as vinyl siding made from recycled parts tries to be eco-friendly, it can not beat the natural materials used to make cedar siding.
