Is it safe to use bleach on my wood pantry shelving? Is it safe to use bleach on my wood pantry shelving?

Pantry shelving can be bleached lightly for cleaning and sanitizing purposes only. Indeed, because of the nature of the pantry, it is possible to quickly overbleach the shelf and that, in turn, can leave you with a damp shelf, even though the surface looks dry. This, in turn, can leach into some of the products you may have in the pantry – although anything you have in your pantry should be kept in safe containers. If you use too much liquid you may find the shelf warping and if they wood is old, it may retain the smell of the bleach so be very careful when cleaning using bleach. You should use no more than one-quarter cup of bleach to a gallon of water to complete this project and then leave the pantry shelves bare until you are sure they are totally dry.
