July DIM Star: Deck Replacement July DIM Star: Deck Replacement

Once a month we like to shine the spotlight on an impressive DIYer by giving their shared project the ol’ “Did It Myself” (DIM) stamp of honor. And, as an added bonus, all DIM Stars are automatically entered into consideration for our first annual DIM Awards next May.

This month we congratulate “Mtrpool” on their rebuilt deck. Share your project and next time it could be you!

What They Did

Mtrpool and his wife demo-ed their previous deck that gave access to the backyard from their back door. With a total cost of $3,000, they constructed a new deck from the ground up with footings, base gravel, a sub structure, and basic platform. They used pressure-treated YellaWood for the structure, short flight of stairs, railing, and even planters spaced througout.

Why We Like It

These DIYers not only built a great looking deck, but kicked the labor-intensive project up a notch by adding a planter around the deck's base. They claim they're "almost finished," but from looking at the pictures we think they deserve to call it a day and enjoy their hard work with a cold beverage in hand.
