Linear feet sounds like it can be confusing however it's very simple. Linear feet are the same as regular feet therefore you don’t have to convert it to get feet. For example if you have 30 foot long subs you would then have 30 linear feet of subs. It should be noted that when you are talking about distance linear feet can be tricky. This is because linear means "a straight line'. Therefore if you're talking about walking a mile in linear feet it's only 5280 feet, however if you're talking about walking a mile in the city it may be more than 5280 feet due to buildings and other people on the sidewalks.
Converting Square Feet to Linear Feet
Since linear feet are the regular feet of measurement (as long as you're talking about the object being a straight line of measurement) you can than just follow three simple steps to convert square feet to linear feet.
- Find the length or the width of the object.
- To find the length you need to divide the area by the width.
- To find the width you need to divide the area by the length.
In either case you need to know either the length or width to be able to do the conversion.
