Locating Your Car's EGR Valve Locating Your Car's EGR Valve
The ERG valve is also known as the exhaust gas recirculation valve. It is an essential part of your car’s emission system because it recirculates your car’s exhaust through the combustion chamber, making your car’s emissions cooler and cleaner and thus, safer for you, your car and the environment. The ERG valve is also a car part that needs to be replaced from time to time, and if you want to be able to do that yourself, you need to be able to locate it. Keep reading to find out how.
Read the Engine Schematic
The ERG valve is located in your engine, so you have to pop the hood of your car first. Look under the hood to see the various stickers that provide information specific to the model of your car because the ERG valve might be located in a slightly different place from car model to car model. A few of the stickers should provide a diagram of the engine. On the diagram, locate the part that says “EGR”. The sticker should indicate the valve itself, as well as the vacuum line that connects it to the callanoid.
Follow the Diagram
The diagram will show the vacuum line in a specific color and location; for instance, the vacuum line might be blue, and shown to be located on the driver hand side of the engine, at the top. Look for it in the engine itself, and trace the vacuum line to the round, flat shape that looks a bit like a flying saucer. Congratulations, you just located your ERG valve!
